Gift Exchange

2 Chronicles 9

Boyd's lesson today was talking about gift exchange. How we all have had in some point in our life have traded gifts with someone we love. In his lesson he referenced the story of Queen of Sheba coming to visit King of Solomon the King who had everything he possibly needed already. Queen of Sheba gave him so many gifts, but what was most pleasing to a man who had everything already?

Boyd made reference to having to believe verses 5 thru 8 were what meant the most to Solomon.

5 She said to the king, “The report I heard in my own country about your achievements and your wisdom is true.6 But I did not believe what they said until I came and saw with my own eyes. Indeed, not even half the greatness of your wisdom was told me; you have far exceeded the report I heard. 7 How happy your people must be! How happy your officials, who continually stand before you and hear your wisdom! 8 Praise be to the Lordyour God, who has delighted in you and placed you on his throne as king to rule for the Lord your God. Because of the love of your God for Israel and his desire to uphold them forever, he has made you king over them, to maintain justice and righteousness.”

Sometimes its not the gifts that means anything, its the value of the persons heart.

A few points I wrote down in my notes:

  • Its hard to give a good gift to someone who has everything already.

  • Consider the challenge of giving a gift to someone you don't know.

  • Don't go through the motions with God.

  • We will never out know God or out giving God.

Verses referenced: Isaiah 1:11, Hosea 6:6, Luke 14, Mathew 7:22, Psalm 50:7-15
